Getting the app

What the VoiceCap mobile app is, where to download it, and how signing in works.

VoiceCap has a mobile app for iOS and Android. Download it from the App Store or Google Play. It's free to install and works on any plan, including the free one.

On a computer, open New Meeting in VoiceCap, or the setup checklist on your dashboard home, and scan the QR code with your phone's camera. It opens the right store for your phone. You can also type voicecap.ai/get-app in your phone's browser.

The app points at the same production VoiceCap backend as voicecap.ai, so anything you do in it is real: real transcripts, real minutes counted against your plan, real emails sent to participants.

What it is

The app uses the same account and the same organization as the web app. It isn't a separate sign-up: a meeting you record on your phone shows up on voicecap.ai the same way a meeting recorded through the web app would, and the other way around. See What the app can do for what's built so far and what still needs the web dashboard.

Signing in

The app signs you in with a link sent to your email, so you don't need a password.

  1. Open the app, enter your Work email and tap Email me a sign-in link. Use the same email as on voicecap.ai, so you land in the same account and organization.
  2. Open the email on your phone and tap the link. It opens the app and signs you in, and you stay signed in for 14 days.

The link works once and expires after 15 minutes. If it has expired, go back to the sign-in screen and ask for a new one with Resend link, or tap Use a different email if you typed the wrong address.

If the link opened in your phone's browser instead of the app, or you opened the email on a computer, copy the link from the email. Back in the app, paste it under Link opened in the browser instead? and tap Sign in.

To sign in with a password instead, tap Use a password and enter the email and password you use on voicecap.ai. If you've forgotten your password, tap Forgot?. It opens the voicecap.ai password reset page in your phone's browser. Reset it there (see Changing your password), then come back to the app and sign in with the new one.

To create an account with a password, tap Use a password and then Create account. Signing up asks for your name, email and password, then a short setup: a welcome screen, picking the language you usually speak in meetings, and a screen about microphone access. That last screen is informational only: VoiceCap doesn't actually ask iOS or Android for microphone permission until the first time you tap the record button. Signing up in the app gets you your own organization as well. Before you can record, open the confirmation link VoiceCap emails you: until you do, the app parks you on a Confirm your email screen, which has Resend email, I've confirmed it for after you've opened the link, View meetings shared with me, and Sign out. That third one opens the meetings other people have shared with you, which don't wait on confirmation. See Email verification and Recording on your phone.

A VoiceCap share link (voicecap.ai/m/<id>) opens directly in the app if it's installed, instead of in the browser. What happens next depends on whether you're already signed in:

  • Signed in: the link resolves straight to the meeting, whether or not your own email address is confirmed. Opening something that was shared with you doesn't wait on confirmation, on the phone or on the web. Recording, uploading, and passing the meeting on to someone else still do. See Email verification.
  • Signed out: you see a locked preview of what was shared, with Sign in to view and Create an account. Creating one here is an ordinary signup: you get your own organization out of it, the same as signing up anywhere else, not a view-only account. Whichever you pick, VoiceCap remembers which link you opened and finishes opening it once you're signed in, so you don't need to tap the link again. A fresh signup lands on the meeting rather than on Confirm your email.

See Share links for what a link lets someone see and how long it stays open.
